Wine Tasting

When: Back to Calendar September 28, 2012 @ 8:00 pm – October 1, 2012 @ 11:45 am

NV Varichon & Clerc ‘Previlege’  Dry Rose, Savoie $19
Often served as an apertif. A fruity sparkling wine, with hints of wild strawberries on the nose and palate.

2010 Figeat, Pouilly Fume, France $23
A feminine, well balanced floral and minerality. A kind of elegance. 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown on limestone,
gray flint silex, and silacaceous (sandy) clay soil. Farming is done sustainably.  Fermented in stainless steel tanks
and only lightly filtered. Bright, medium lemon-green color with very light legs. Clean nose, aromas of lemon
zest, fresh herbs and cut grass with a flinty minerality. A great Sauvignon Blanc true to the Pouilly-Fumé terroir.

2011 Sancerre Domaine Cherrier Et Fils $21
A classic offering from a vintage that is very true to form here. Kiwi, lime, wet stones, bracing acidity all form
together for a delightful experience. Our Sancerre selection is 100% tank-made, from vineyards that represent a
mix of silex (flint) and stony, chalky soils. Vines are older, and low-yielding. This is classic Sancerre, with flinty
perfumes, abundant white fruit and citrus flavors, and a clean, brisk finish with touches of sea salt.

2010 Charles Krug Chardonnay Carneros, Napa Valley $18
Our Carneros Chardonnay shines with tropical fruit, citrus blossom and pineapple aromas. A hint of vanilla
precedes flavors of peach, brown sugar and bright citrus. Vanilla returns with scents of oak leading to along,
supple finish. A classy wine to sip on its own, yet, as always, can be paired with an array of fish or fresh fowl.

Cleto Chiarli 1860 Lambrusco Di Castevetro Amabile $15
It is of a deep ruby red color with a pink froth. Fruity aroma and palate, typical of this varietal, which are very
pleasant indeed. Thanks to a rational and slow fermentation the wine has a distinct softness and delicacy.

2010 Louis Bernard Cotes Du Rhone, France $12
Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone is an attractive ruby red color. On the nose, it has tart red fruits, such as red
currant and red cherry, and black pepper. On the palate, this wine has a nice attack, full of fruits, and an ample
finish. The varietal that dominates the southern Cotes-du-Rhône is Grenache. Although all wines from this
region are blends, it is this particular grape that distinguishes them from wines of other parts of the world.

2009 Inspiration Pinot Noir $32
Flavors of earth, dark cherries, and leather accompanied by a nice toasty finish, make this the perfect food wine,
especially since it also has great acidity. This will be our next to the last vintage of Sonoma County Pinot Noir.

2007 Domaine Serene “Evenstad Reserve” Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Oregon $47
A very elegant and refined Evenstad Reserve, with grace notes of sandalwood and a lovely cherry core. The fruit
is immaculate, the concentration focused and lengthy, and the flavors are so artfully blended that the wine is
seamless and perfectly balanced. Although it is drinking like a mature wine, there is every reason to cellar wines
such as this—it can develop like a fine Burgundy. Suggested to drink between 2011 and 2019.

2008 Langmeil Hangin Snake Shiraz Viognier $27
Langmeil is German for  “long mile,” and after this juicy taste, you’ll know why. Smooth and velvety, a mouthful
of mineral-accented red berry and floral flavors riding easily over the fine tannins, lingering on the finish. [Very
old vines, 5% viognier]

2010 Xiloca Garnacha $19
Garnacha, the dominant grape (Grenache) of France’s Rhône Valley, is of Spanish heritage, and the wine made
from Spain’s version of the grape is different but at least equal to France’s. Here, the wine shows its minty, herbal
side, as well as a powerful raspberry and strawberry fruitiness. But there is depth as well, and a few years in the
cellar won’t hurt this wine at all.
